Clarence Acox & The Legacy Quartet
For 27 plus years every Wednesday at the New Orleans Creole Restaurant in Pioneer Square, the Floyd Standifer Group with Clarence Acox on drums, Phil Sparks on bass, with Bill Anschell at the piano, and the leader the great Floyd Standifer on saxophone, trumpet, and vocals played. Those Wednesday nights became a staple of the Seattle jazz scene. When Mr. Standifer passed away in 2007, the band was renamed The Legacy Quartet (named to honor the legacy of the original leader and jazz icon) continued to play there until New Orleans Restaurant owner, Gaye Anderson, passed away a few years ago and soon after, the New Orleans Restaurant, unfortunately closed.
The music of the great ‘American Jazz Classics’ with a ‘straight-ahead’ style was and is the Legacy Quartet’s trademark and is showcased at Seattle Jazz Vespers with the addition of Bernie Jacobs on sax, flute and vocals, plus guest drummer John Hansen.
