SHARE, LEAD & GROW

children

At SFBC we value the youngest members of our community as full participants who share their gifts, lead and grow among us. Children and youth are welcome in our sanctuary worship services–and really, anywhere else in our church! We believe in empowering the next generation not as “the church of tomorrow,” but “the church of today”!

In Worship

During worship services, children and youth are invited to come forward for a Time With Children, a special moment for listening and sharing with a pastor. Activities related to the worship service are provided in Worship Adventure Kits.

Godly Play

One of our favorite faith formation resources to use is Godly Play, a Bible storytelling curriculum based on the Montessori method.

Godly Play is patterned after the flow of a worship service, so prayer, a Bible story, synthesizing the story through arts and crafts, and communion are included in our time together.

We also love doing seasonal intergenerational Godly Play series during Advent and Lent.

Other Opportunities

Seasonal Intergenerational Sunday School
We also enjoy seasonal intergenerational Sunday school in the Godly Play style during Advent and Lent, with various activities targeted to each age group.

Study Bibles
In 3rd grade, every child receives a Study Bible as a recognition of their growing faith.

Summer Camp
SFBC is passionate about sending all interested children to summer camp at Camp Burton on Vashon Island, which offers programs for elementary, middle, and high school ages, as well as for children, youth and young adults with disabilities.

Church Movie Nights
Children are also welcome at our church movie nights, where we gather for fellowship and a family-friendly movie that will inspire reflection.

Safety

We care deeply for the safety of minors in our care. As such, all staff and volunteers working with children are background-checked regularly, trained in CPR and First Aid, and trained in our Safe Sanctuary policies. For questions about these policies, contact a pastor.

Creativity

This community sees God’s wondrous creativity in the children in our common care, and we do our best to not entertain, but truly involve, children in the faith life of our congregation.
