Join the revelry and the reverence on June 9th at 11:00 a.m. when Seattle First Baptist celebrates Music Sunday, featuring Vivaldi's Beatus Vir, a classical work based on Psalm 112 for two choirs, two string quartets and two oboes.

Psalm 112 begins, "Blessed are they who revere the Lord, who revel in God's commands!" Music-making is a joyous discipline. Music has "commands": rules and techniques which help create beautiful inspiring art out of unordered sound. These "commands" are a blessing; they give our musical lives order and meaning, just as following God's commands give human life integrity and greater purpose. Psalm 112 is a justice-filled psalm. In the hands of master composer Antonio Vivaldi, this psalm practically dances off the page. Doing justice, Vivaldi-style, is a joyous activity.

The musical blessing continues with gospel music, old-time hymns, offerings by the bells, Children and Youth, organ, and the congregation, which joins in on Handel's Hallelujah chorus at the end of the service.

Come be a part of celebration of blessings! - Vicky Thomas, Director of Choral Music, Seattle First Baptist.
